MdR, 16th January 2013 - more 'interesting' weather...

Solar fairly lights looked better than this photo suggests...

So Christmas has come and gone - Happy New Year to our loyal followers, and apologies for the delay in this short update! In the last 24 hours we have had torrential rain showers, hail, thunder & lightning and 45 knot gusts which, despite all our extra mooring lines, heels us over enough to have to hold on to your beer to avoid the possibility of it sliding off the saloon table! However, during Christmas & New Year, the weather was warm & sunny with very light winds, allowing us to cook our turkey on the Cobb:

Christmas morning bubbly with smoked salmon & scrambled eggs.

Your nuts m' Lord... Your crackers m' Lady...

Starter - Italian winter salad with radicchio, watercress, fennel, clementine & mozzarella.

Turkey stuffed with ciabatta, pancetta, sage, lemon, pine nuts & shallots, rolled in more pancetta. Accompanied by juniper glazed sprouts, maple syrup glazed pumpkin, carrots, roast potatoes & a gratin of Jerusalem artichokes topped with ciabatta & chopped hazelnuts. Nice...

Pear & chocolate tiramisu accompanied by a glass of Disaronno - all very Italian. Cheese course to come...

On New Year's Eve we, along with about 30 other liveaboards, went to a 'traditional Italian' Tex Mex restaurant in town. Chris & Sue on Nimrod had put a lot of time & effort into organising this event but, on the evening, their best efforts were slightly thwarted by the over-ambitious intentions of the restaurant - they were woefully under-staffed but, nonetheless, our meals eventually arrived as ordered, the wine flowed and we enjoyed the disorganised chaos of the evening!

So now the normal pattern of life in the marina has resumed, we continue to attend to the seemingly ever growing jobs list and our thoughts are turning to waters new and getting to the Ionian. Ann has taken to walking along the seafront for an hour or so each morning - there is a group of ladies who depart at 0730, but a few have opted for a more civilised 0930...

One of the jobs - replacing a faulty immersion heater switch - but still no hot water...

Santa bought Ann a new shopping trolley - he does know how to spoil a girl! As the supermarket is nearly 2km from the boat (even the showers are 3/4 km!) she does now appreciate not having to carry Andy's beer in shopping bags.

Incidentally, if Santa bought you a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas, we'd like to hear your opinion as to whether or not it is worth the premium over the standard Kindle and particularly whether the built-in light is useful on a yacht in generally sunny weather!
