Looking upstream from under the Pont du Morbihan.

We returned to the woodland last Saturday to collect some sweet chestnuts in anticipation of making stuffing with them to accompany a roast chicken for Sunday lunch. It was another childhood memory rekindled for Andy, as he remembers doing the same in Frenchay some 35 years ago. Doesn't remember feeling such a prick though. Perhaps he had gloves then...

Your nuts m'Lord...

Your crackers m'Lady...

To work up our appetites for lunch and to make the most of the continuing glorious weather, we walked the Circuit des Ponts, the circular walk from LRB which takes you along the river, through woodland and incorporates crossing both bridges. Our first attempt at roast chicken on the Cobb was a resounding success, together with roast potatoes and parsnips, boat-made chestnut and cranberry stuffing balls, bacon rolls, cabbage and carrots. A very traditional Sunday lunch and very delicious!

The 1960s suspension bridge with the remains of an earlier bridge, destroyed when lightning struck a nearby German WWII mine...

A peak through the woodland at the Pont du Morbihan autoroute bridge. Not quite Sydney Harbour Bridge, but we did walk up, over and down the steps on the arch under the road deck.

The marina as seen from the suspension bridge. Enough bridge photos now...

Another minor celebration with Kir Royale. As liveaboards we have to watch the centimes, so when Mercier is on special offer it seemed only prudent to buy more than one bottle...

Nearly ready. It's not the Fowey Cockerel...

On Thursday in ideal weather, we took off the sails, then delivered them to a sail loft in Arzal on Friday. It was yet another stunning autumn day and a pleasure to motor down the river. To our surprise, we were also able to top up with diesel and petrol at Arzal (the fuel station at the supermarket in LRB has been closed for over a week due to the strikes). On our return we continued up river from LRB as far as Foleux to appreciate the beauty of the river and see the first trees starting to change colour. In a week or two, we'll take another trip on the river to capture the autumn colours at their very best.

Early morning mist, portentous of the beautiful day to follow.

Oops, another bridge photo. I know we fit, but it still gives me the willies...

Reflections... Pardon the fenders, we were only pottering up the river a bit...

A hint at the autumnal colours to come...
